On 26th January, women from all over Turkey gathered under the name “Initiative Against Rape, Turkey” before the trial of the case concerning the rape incident which took place in Fethiye 4 years ago. Women reacted against the fact that only 2 of the 8 people who took part in the incident were judged and called for the judiciary not to connive at rape.

4 years ago in the incident in Gebeler Kaplıcası of Fethiye, a woman was subjected to rape and violence by 8 people. She filed a complaint about 8 people including an inspector of national education and teachers. The Prosecutor’s Office in Fethiye did not collect evidence about her complaint, what is more, declared the rapists “nolle prosequi” in spite of İstanbul Forensic Medicine Institution’s report, which verified the rape. 2nd High Criminal Court of Muğla refused the appeal without any justification. Therefore the woman, who applied to European Court of Human Rights, also applied to Ministry of Justice by the demand of breaking nolle prosequi for the sake of law. Eventually on March 2010, her application was accepted and the case was sent to Supreme Court.
