Mor Çatı is going to hold a workshop on 26th and 27th of January in Cibali Hall at Kadir Has University. In the workshop, Violence Prevention and Monitoring Centers (ŞÖNİM-KOZA) which have been recently opened, the regulations and implementations will be discussed. The representatives of the women’s organizations from various regions in Turkey will share their observations about the change. New regulations will be assessed within legal framework and social politics point of view.

In the workshop, Violence Prevention and Monitoring Centers (ŞÖNİM-KOZA) which have been recently opened, the regulations and implementations will be discussed. The representatives of the women’s organizations from various regions in Turkey will share their observations about the change. New regulations will be assessed within legal framework and social politics point of view.
The Ministry of Family and Social Policies gathered all the institutions of relative units under the same, conducting a project about prevention of violence against women in collaboration with The Ministry of Justice, The Ministry of Interior, Turkish National Police and The Ministry of Health in 2012. The establishment of Violence Prevention and Monitoring Centers to which women subjected to violence would apply was touched upon while the Act No. 6284 on The Protection of Family and The Prevention of Violence against Women that had been formed by The Ministry of Family and Social Policies was put into action. Nevertheless, the closure of SHÇEK which had a wide network within Turkey has led to a great vacuum.
Women’s organizations including Mor Çatı currently monitor the Act No. 6284 and ŞÖNİM through their solidarity centers and the experiences of women who encountered violence. From now on, women have to apply for shelter via police stations due to the abolishment of SHÇEK. The entire expert staff on analyzing risks and giving consultancy services by detecting women’s needs within SHÇEK has been replaced.
Consequently, women who strive to cope with male violence are victimized once again at the centers they apply. Therefore, it is required to discuss the impacts of practices and the draft regulation of ŞÖNİMs in terms of struggle with violence against women. At the end of the workshop a final declaration report will be issued and the assessments will be shared with public. Our workshop is open to all women.
