Assembly of Women’s Shelters and Solidarity Centers

In 1998 Mor Çatı put out a call to women active in the struggle against violence against women across Turkey to convene in Istanbul for what was called the “First Women’s Shelters Assembly” to be held in observance of the November 25th “International Day to End Violence Against Women”. It was renamed the ‘Assembly of Women’s Shelters and Solidarity Centers’ in the 5th Assembly taking place in 2002. Held in a different province every year since 1998, the Assembly aims to create a space for sharing experiences in combating violence against women, to identify a common set of politics, and set up a lasting communication network between organizations and institutions.
