After Istanbul and Trabzon, Mor Çatı organizes the experience- sharing workshop entitled “Violence against Women and Legal Practices” in Gaziantep within a project conducted in order to uncover the problems and find solutions to the issues that women face when applying to justice after being subject to violence.
The workshop which is going to be held on December 15 at the Conference Room at Gaziantep Bar Association aims to prevent violence against women and find legal solutions through the exchange of ideas. The workshop is going to be held by Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation in cooperation with Istanbul Bilgi University thanks to the financial support of the UN (United Nations).
The workshop is an all-day event and is only open to participation of jurists, lawyers, prosecutors and judges. After the acquaintance meeting which is going to be held at 10.00 a.m., the first session of the workshop is going to start with the presentation entitled “The Views of a Judge on the Women’s Rights and Legal Practices” of İzzet Doğan, who is a retired judge from the Family Court. During the question-answer session, the jurists will be able to participate in the meeting interactively.
The morning session of this experience-sharing workshop includes other topics, namely “International Conventions Considering Discrimination and Violence against Women” and “The Act No. 6284 on the Protection of Family and Prevention of Violence against Women” and other new regulations on “Restraining Orders”, “Temporary Alimony” and “False Imprisonment ”.
In the afternoon session which will be chaired by Gülsün Kanat, who works as a volunteer and social worker at Mor Çatı, opinions will be exchanged with the lawyers based on some real cases. After “What does violence do to women?” presentation by Feride Yıldırım Güneri, who is a psychologist and volunteer of Mor Çatı, a new topic “The Empowering Role of the Law in the struggle with the violence against women, how should we improve it?” will be discussed based on the experiences of the lawyers to explore ways to improve the role of law.
The workshop will be closed with final assessments.
