Exhibitions, in the content of Istanbul 2010 -European Capital of Culture, start on September 20, saying women “let’s go out in Istanbul”. After Bakırköy and Taksim Square and Cihangir, the exhibition will be open till October 24th in Kağıthane Square.

More than thirty women, met at photography, cinema and design workshops in Filmmor on December 2009. The exhibition welcomes you with a big iron and grater with shackle outside, and continues with photographs and artworks inside.

Women are describing their aim with those words; “While dealing with housework, city in turmoil, life’s troubles, we wanted to share how we live in this city and how we want to live through our photographs, films and designs… Regardless of housework, city in turmoil, life’s troubles, we wanted to meet with women at streets, beaches, cinemas, bridges, squares beyond thresholds, bazaars and neighbourhoods. We wanted to go out in Istanbul.”

They also state that “Streets of Istanbul that we are afraid of walking at late hours or run away, pavements that we sometimes hardly walk, buses that we get on with our pins, Istanbul that we are not included or we can not exist are in this exhibition. However, Istanbul, we dream, is also in this exhibition.”
